So here we are again, it's November and the Christmas ads are on the television, the songs are on the radio and the merchandise are on the shelves. With this commercialisation of Christmas I cannot help but ask myself "Did I miss the memo that said that Christmas is now celebrated in November?"
Don't get me wrong I love Christmas and everything that comes with it. I like nothing better than shopping under the Christmas lights or putting up the tree but even I must draw the line at Christmas shopping in October. Just two weeks ago on the day of Halloween, I entered my local Tesco to find Halloween decorations being dumped into a bargain box and the Christmas merchandise taking pride of place. Has our world become so commercialised that we are not satisfied unless we are exploiting one holiday or another? The second Halloween is over Christmas is upon us, and then what; Valentine's Day, St Patrick's Day, Mother's Day. It really is a vicious circle which will continue until we, the public decide to break it. Come December 1st I will join the throngs of people shopping under the Christmas lights but until then they can do without me. If we do not take a stand against this and reject this exploitation right now, who knows in a couple of years this Christmas mayhem may begin as early as August.
It really is ridiculous how early the christmas things are in the shops. I don't agree with it at all.
ReplyDeleteI know it is completely ridiculous.
